See the life-size terracotta soldiers up close

The terracotta soldiers are life-size, usually between 175 cm and about 200 cm tall, with officers generally taller. Their height, uniforms and hairstyles differ according to the rank they depict.

Look for traces of the original paint

The figures were originally painted with various pigments, including cinnabar (red), malachite (green), azurite (blue), charcoal (black), bone ash (white) and Han purple. However, due to Xi'an's dry climate, most of the paint flaked off within four minutes after the surrounding mud was removed during excavation.
