This is an admission ticket to Guangzhou's Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, completed in 1931 in honor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Enter between 9:00 AM and noon to stroll the grounds and visit the main hall, including the grand auditorium with the "天下为公" plaque and the exhibition of Sun Yat-sen's historical relics. The hall is also where the Japanese surrender ceremony for Guangdong was held on September 16, 1945, and today it hosts concerts, ceremonies and cultural events.
See a main hall blending palace style
and modern engineering

The hall was designed by architect Lü Yanzhi (吕彦直), who also designed the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing. Its exterior follows Song dynasty palace architecture, with an octagonal roof of sapphire-blue glazed tiles set off by red columns and window frames. Inside, a steel truss and reinforced concrete structure lets the auditorium span 71 meters without interior columns.
Look out for the five rectangular iron lanterns hanging from the front eaves and the "¥"-shaped decorations on the column capitals, said to represent a ram (羊) from Guangzhou's legend of the Five Rams.
Step into the auditorium
with the "天下为公" plaque

Above the stage of the auditorium, which seats more than 3,000 people, hangs a large blue lacquered plaque carved with Sun Yat-sen's calligraphy "天下为公" (The world belongs to all). Explore the interior with its stained-glass windows and lighting, and visit the exhibition of Sun Yat-sen's historical relics.
Meet Sun Yat-sen's statue
and a 350-year-old kapok tree

In front of the hall stands a 5.5-meter bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen modeled on him giving a speech at National Sun Yat-sen University, and two Yunhe Huabiao (云鹤华表) columns carved with cloud motifs flank the lawn. In the northeast corner stands the "Kapok King" (木棉王), a tree said to have been planted around 1669.
