Every handpan is tuned to a single scale, so whatever note you play fits, even if you have never touched an instrument. One of you keeps the rhythm while the other solos, then you switch roles, and you take your song home as handpan tabs with left and right hands marked bar by bar. Open to any pair: couples, friends or family.

Write your own handpan duet
on a terrace in Lamai

Over 3 hours, two people with no musical experience compose a handpan piece with instructor Khan and play it as the sun goes down. The session takes place at Noom Terrace in Lamai overlooking the sea, or, depending on your option, the instructor brings the instruments to your hotel or villa on Koh Samui.

Start with tea and a short opening performance

You begin by exploring the instruments over tea, followed by a short 15 to 20 minute opening performance by Khan. Then you sit side by side and learn how to strike the steel so the notes ring, rhythm patterns that keep the beat, and arpeggios and melodies.

Find your melodies and finish the piece together

As you learn, each of you finds your own melodic phrase, and you name your piece over snacks and drinks. In the last 30 minutes you complete it together: one keeps the rhythm while the other solos, then you swap. Khan joins in on drum or guitar.

Take your song home as handpan tabs

You leave with your piece written as handpan tabs, with left and right hands marked bar by bar, plus a simple practice method so you can keep playing anywhere. Feel free to film as much as you like during the session.
