The Vatican Museums display collections gathered by popes over centuries across a series of connected galleries. Near the start of the route, the Museo Pio-Clementino holds classical sculptures such as the Laocoön group, and after the Gallery of Tapestries and the Gallery of Maps comes a corridor lined with 16th-century artworks.

See the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel

Pass through the Raphael Rooms, decorated with frescoes Raphael painted for the private apartments of Pope Julius II. Whichever option you choose, your visit ends at the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes and The Last Judgment cover the walls.

With the skip-the-line ticket option, the visit is self-guided from the entrance and no guide accompanies you inside. You decide how long to spend in each gallery, including the Sistine Chapel, and in what order. With the English guided tour option, a qualified English-speaking guide accompanies you through the museums and the Sistine Chapel explaining the history of the works, then takes you directly to St. Peter's Basilica to see the Pietà and the interior.
