Xi'an City Wall E-Bike Tour - Xiaonanmen Morning Market

Ride an e-bike through
old Xi'an in the morning

Meet at 07:50 at Exit C of Qiaozikou Metro Station and walk 3 minutes to a nearby rental shop to pick up your e-bike and helmet. Then ride clockwise about 9 km along the southern and eastern foot of the city wall, visit 7 stops and return to the same shop to drop off the bikes.

The tour lasts about 3 hours, with about 40 to 50 minutes of riding. The rest of the time is spent exploring, tasting and listening to stories with your English-speaking guide. The route is flat and mostly follows quiet streets at the foot of the wall, so beginners can join.

Pass the Bell Tower and taste
Xiaonanmen Morning Market

Right after picking up the bikes, pass the Bell Tower, Xi'an's iconic landmark where the four main streets of the old city meet, and stop briefly for photos. Then head to the centuries-old Xiaonanmen Morning Market, where you can taste steamed cakes, soy milk and potato cakes before the stalls close.

Visit the South Gate and
Shuyuanmen calligraphy street

Ride east along the wall to the South Gate (Yongning Gate), the grandest of Xi'an's gates. Continue to Shuyuanmen, a street lined with calligraphy and antique shops, where you can also see the exterior of the Stele Forest Museum nearby.

Explore Jianguomen Old Market
and historic sites

Explore Jianguomen Old Market, with a working traditional market downstairs and graffiti art and quirky shops upstairs. Then pass Zhang Xueliang's Mansion, the site of the 1936 Xi'an Incident, and visit Dongyue Temple, a Northern Song Taoist temple just inside Changle Gate with rare Qing-dynasty murals, before riding back to the start.
