From Lijiang: First Bend of the Yangtze, Naxi Village and Baishuitai Tour to Shangri-La

from Lijiang to Shangri-La

This one-way tour of about 8 hours departs Lijiang in the morning and ends in Shangri-La. With an English-speaking guide, stop at the First Bend of the Yangtze River, a Naxi village at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain and Baishuitai, taking in the canyons and plateau scenery of northwestern Yunnan. The tour runs in small groups of up to 13 people.

See the First Bend of the Yangtze
and the Iron Chain Bridge

Heading northwest from Lijiang to Shigu village, you reach the First Bend of the Yangtze River, where the Jinsha River (the upper Yangtze) curves sharply in a horseshoe shape. Take photos from the viewpoint with the river and distant mountains behind you, and explore the old Iron Chain Bridge once crossed by soldiers and merchants on the Tea Horse Road.

Walk through a Naxi village at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain

Enter the foothills of Haba Snow Mountain and walk through a traditional Naxi village with sloping roofs and intricate wooden carvings. A local guide introduces village life and Naxi customs, and you can enjoy the village scenery surrounded by pine and spruce forests.

Walk Baishuitai and ascend to Shangri-La

In the afternoon, visit Baishuitai, formed over thousands of years by calcium carbonate deposits from mineral-rich springs. Take a light walk along the tiered white and turquoise pools to see them up close. Then cross the plateau above 3,300m, and the tour ends when you arrive in Shangri-La, where prayer flags and white stupas come into view.
