After pickup from your hotel in the Bintan resort area and a 15-minute drive, explore the Sebung River with a guide. Choose a daytime mangrove tour, a nighttime firefly tour, or both with a dinner break in between. The tour lasts about 1.5 to 4 hours depending on the option, and guides speak English and Chinese.

Learn about the mangrove ecosystem

Explore the mangrove forest along the Sebung River, home to hundreds of species of plants and animals. Your guide explains how mangrove roots hold the soil firmly underwater to prevent erosion and protect Bintan's coast, how to identify different mangrove species, and how the river supports local livelihoods.

Look for wildlife along the river

Search for the many creatures of the Sebung River, such as mangrove snakes coiled in the trees above the water, monitor lizards, fish, mudskippers, clams and mud lobsters that build their homes among the mud mounds.

Continue with the firefly tour at night

The firefly tour departs daily at 6:30 PM. Follow the darkened Sebung River and look for fireflies in the mangrove forest. If you choose both tours, there is about an hour for dinner between them.
