Make your very own "Andon" (Japanese traditional lantern) by pasting washi paper and illustrations of sights from the World Heritage Hiraizumi area. Choose your favorite colors and patterns to decorate a plain lantern handmade by craftsmen, and take the finished lantern home. A dedicated built-in light is included so you can use it as interior lighting at home. A Japanese-speaking assistant will help you, and English and Chinese guidebooks are available.
The workshop takes place at the World Heritage Hiraizumi & Ichinoseki DMO Office on the 2nd floor of Nanohana Plaza in Ichinoseki. Paste illustrations of Hiraizumi sights or washi paper onto a plain lantern to create a one-of-a-kind Andon. Choose a time slot from 10:00~12:00, 12:00~14:00, 14:00~16:00 or 16:00~18:00.
A Japanese-speaking assistant will help you, and English and Chinese guidebooks explaining how to make the lantern are provided on site. No special preparation is needed.
The activity fee includes materials and the dedicated built-in light. Take your finished lantern home and feel Hiraizumi's ideals of "peace" and "equality" in daily life. A packing box and AAA batteries are available for purchase only if you wish.
※ Your clothes may get slightly dirty from lacquer and other materials during the activity.
