This admission ticket lets you visit Hoheikan (豊平館), a Western-style hotel built in 1880 and run directly by the Hokkaido Development Commission. It is the oldest surviving wooden hotel building in Japan and a historic place visited by the Imperial Family across three eras: Meiji, Taisho and Showa. In one building you can find many styles, from the ultramarine blue framing its white walls and the European-style columns and balcony added to American-style architecture, to ceiling ornaments carved with maple leaves and peonies. Designated a National Important Cultural Property in 1964, it stands in Nakajima Park in central Sapporo and is easy to reach by subway.

Hoheikan was built in November 1880 as a Western-style hotel run directly by the Hokkaido Development Commission, which laid the foundations for the development of Hokkaido. The deep blue that vividly frames the white walls is called ultramarine blue, a noble color once made from lapis lazuli, a stone prized as a gem. On the day of your visit, show your QR code at the reception to enter.

The building is based on an American style, while the columns of the front entrance and the eye-catching balcony are European in style. The plaster ceiling medallions use motifs loved by the Japanese, such as maple leaves and peonies, so you can discover a variety of styles and motifs in a single building.

Hoheikan was visited by the Imperial Family across the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras, and was designated a National Important Cultural Property in 1964.

It was first built at today's Kita 1-jo Nishi 1-chome in Chuo-ku, Sapporo, and with a public hall added, it served as a center of cultural activities in Sapporo for many years. After being moved to Nakajima Park in 1958, it was used as a municipal wedding hall until fiscal year 2011.
