to see wallabies at sunrise
This sunrise tour of about 4.5 hours picks you up early from selected Mackay CBD hotels and heads to Cape Hillsborough National Park. See wallabies and kangaroos on the beach as the sun rises, then enjoy a ranger talk, a guided hike and a light breakfast before returning to Mackay in the morning.
Travel to the national park by air-conditioned bus
Depart Mackay around 4:00 AM from September to March or around 5:00 AM from April to August, and travel about 45 minutes in an air-conditioned vehicle. It is a group tour of up to 22 people.
See wallabies and kangaroos up close on the beach
Arriving at the park at dawn, head to the beach to watch wallabies and kangaroos feeding on mangrove seed pods washed up by the tide. Hear about these animals from a Cape Hillsborough National Park ranger and walk along the shoreline to take in the sunrise over the Hibiscus Coast.
Hike with your guide and enjoy breakfast
Hike with your guide through the national park where rainforest meets the sea and learn about local Indigenous traditions. A light breakfast is provided, and extra adventure activities may be offered if time permits. You return to Mackay around 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
