This walking tour takes you through Split's Old Town with a local guide to learn about 1,700 years of the city's history. Explore the ruins of the Roman Diocletian's Palace built in 305, the Peristyle and the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, and hear the story of Bishop Gregory of Nin in front of his statue. On the Riva promenade, enjoy views of Marjan Hill and the Adriatic Sea. Depending on your option, choose from a 90-minute short tour, a 150-minute tour that also covers the markets and fishing harbor, or a tour that continues to Trogir.
From the construction of Diocletian's Palace in 305 to today, when Split is Croatia's second-largest city, learn about the city's history on foot with explanations from a local guide. The tour starts and ends at the Golden Gate, the north gate of Diocletian's Palace.
Explore the ruins of the Roman imperial palace, which today takes up about half of Split's Old Town. Pause in the Peristyle at the center of the palace to admire the open colonnade, and visit the vestibule and the cellars of Diocletian's Palace with your guide. You'll also visit the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, considered one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals still used in its original form.
Hear the story of Gregory of Nin beside his statue, then stroll along the Riva promenade and enjoy views of Marjan Hill and the Adriatic Sea. The tour then returns to the Golden Gate, where it began.
The 150-minute regular tour also covers the Green Market, the Fish Market, Marmontova Street, the Prokurative, the Varoš district and the historic fishing harbor, with a 5-minute break after 90 minutes. The Trogir tour follows the 90-minute walking tour with a ride in an air-conditioned vehicle to Trogir for a 1-hour guided tour and 1 hour of free time before returning to Split.
