This tour takes you from Kuala Lumpur to the top sights of Malacca, a UNESCO World Heritage city, in a single day. Discover traces of the Portuguese and Dutch colonial era at Dutch Square (Red Square) and St. Paul's Hill, then walk Harmony Street, where a Chinese temple, a mosque and a Hindu temple stand side by side, to experience Malaysia's diverse cultures. Finish with a stroll along Jonker Street and the Malacca River. Choose between a guided group tour and a private tour with a driver-guide, with lunch and hotel pickup available as options.
Depart from a meeting point or your hotel in central Kuala Lumpur and travel south to Malacca in an air-conditioned vehicle. On the way, your guide or driver tells you about Malacca's history as a thriving trading port.
Your first stop is St. Peter's Church, built in 1710 and Malaysia's oldest Catholic church. Then pass the Customs Museum and the Malacca Museum, and take about 15 minutes of photos at the Maritime Museum (Flor de la Mar), a replica of a 16th-century Portuguese ship.
At Dutch Square (Red Square), the heart of colonial Malacca, see Christ Church, the Stadthuys, the Queen Victoria Fountain and the Tan Beng Swee Clock Tower. Climb St. Paul's Hill to view the ruins of St. Paul's Church and the city, then visit A Famosa (Porta de Santiago), the remains of a Portuguese fortress.
Take photos at the Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum, a life-size replica of Sultan Mansur Shah's 15th-century palace, and stop at the Straits Mosque (Masjid Selat Melaka), built over the water. Options with lunch include a lunch break of about 30 minutes during this part of the day.
Take a short walk along Harmony Street (Jalan Tukang Emas), where three historic places of worship stand side by side: Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, Malaysia's oldest Chinese temple; Kampung Kling Mosque, blending Hindu, Buddhist, Chinese and Sumatran styles; and Sri Poyyatha Vinayagar Moorthi Temple, one of Malaysia's oldest Hindu temples.
Spend about 20 minutes on Jonker Street, lined with local snacks, antiques and souvenir shops, and enjoy free time along the Malacca River. Leave Malacca around 4 PM and arrive back in Kuala Lumpur between 6 and 7 PM depending on traffic, with drop-off at your original pickup point.
