We had an amazing trek and a wonderful experience visiting remote villages. It's definitely one of the best memories of my trip. Yom was our guide, and we absolutely loved him. He taught us so much about Laos and its culture. Most importantly, he was incredibly patient and kind. He checked on us constantly, making sure we had everything we needed and that we felt comfortable. Staying overnight with a local family was also an incredible experience. All the food came straight from the jungle, and the people were so warm and welcoming. I highly recommend this experience - a must-do when you visit Nong Khiaw!

Probably one of the best, most varied and surprising tour I’ve been on. It’s a well planned itinerary for the three days, and the scenery is just breathtaking. I’d so recommend it. Also, don’t worry if you’re not the fastest, you can take the activities at a steady pace. I would recommend a good base level of fitness though as it can be taxing at times. To note (as it doesn’t mention in the listing): the journey to Nong Khiaw is about 5 hours on one of the worst stretches of road. It’s entertaining, but be prepared. Camping at the top of the mountain is cool but it’s not the most comfortable. The homestay is basic but you get a bed and a shower (even if it is cold). It’s a long journey back if you travel back to Luang Prabang after finishing the tour - I’d recommend staying in Nong Khiaw for the night (I didn’t and wished I had). Don’t let any of that put you off - it’s one of the most incredible and good value trips I’ve been on, and our guide, Tan, was helpful and friendly.

Starting from your hotel in Luang Prabang, this 3-day tour takes you to the riverside mountain village of Nong Khiaw for trekking, boat rides and kayaking. On the first night you have dinner while watching the sunset from a 360-degree viewpoint and camp in a tent, then wake up the next morning to watch the sun rise over a sea of clouds. Trek through jungle and rice fields, swim at a waterfall, take a boat to explore the caves and viewpoint of Muang Ngoi, and stay overnight in the weaving village of Ban Sopjam. On the last day, walk through bamboo jungle and travel down the Nam Ou River by boat and kayak.

Leave Luang Prabang for
a 3-day trek around Nong Khiaw

On the first morning you are picked up from your hotel in Luang Prabang and travel about 4 hours to Nong Khiaw. Over 3 days with an English-speaking guide, you trek through the jungle, camp at a viewpoint, swim at a waterfall, travel the Nam Ou River by boat and kayak, and stay in a weaving village homestay. Meals from day 1 lunch to day 3 breakfast, camping equipment, homestay accommodation and viewpoint and waterfall tickets are included. The tour ends in Nong Khiaw at around 4:00 PM on day 3.

Watch sunset and sunrise from a 360-degree viewpoint
and spend a night in a tent

After lunch in Nong Khiaw, trek through the jungle to a 360-degree viewpoint. Enjoy dinner with the sunset over mountains rising above the clouds and sleep in a tent. On day 2, wake up around 6:00 AM to watch the sun rise over a sea of clouds, enjoy breakfast and coffee, then hike about 1 hour down to the tour office.

Swim at a waterfall and visit
Muang Ngoi and a weaving village

Travel about 50 minutes along the river and trek through rice paddies, jungle valleys and hillsides to a waterfall for a swim and lunch. Then take a 30-minute boat ride to Muang Ngoi to explore caves and a viewpoint and meet local people. A short boat ride along the Nam Ou past limestone mountains brings you to the weaving village of Ban Sopjam, where village elders show you how to make bamboo crafts and you can join a MaMa cooking class. In the evening, enjoy local food and stay overnight in a homestay.

After breakfast on day 3, trek for 3 to 4 hours through bamboo jungle with mountain views. When you reach the Nam Ou River, your guide finds a spot for a final local lunch and a swim. Cruise downstream by boat for 1.5 hours, then switch to kayaks for another hour on the river before returning to Nong Khiaw at around 4:00 PM.
