Taste your way from Chinatown
to Little India in Ipoh
This walking food tour of about 3.5 to 4 hours starts in Ipoh's old town at dusk and visits 7 to 8 stops on the way to Little India, with more than 15 tastings. In a small group of up to 8 people with an English-speaking guide, you hear how the tin-mining boom and migrant communities turned Ipoh into one of Malaysia's top food cities.
Try Chinese-Malaysian favorites
in Chinatown

Start next to Time Tower Park and cool down with tau fu fa chin chow, a soy pudding with grass jelly. At a traditional Chinese bakery, taste freshly baked kaya puffs with fragrant coconut jam wrapped in flaky pastry, then sit down for yu kong hor, flat rice noodles with prawns and pork.
At one of Ipoh's long-standing eateries, enjoy Hainanese chicken with fragrant oil rice, tangy acar pickles and the city's famous crunchy bean sprouts.
Continue the evening
with charcoal-grilled satay

As the sun sets, head to a grill stall for beef and chicken satay cooked over glowing charcoal and dipped in rich peanut sauce. Then take a short local bus ride to Little India.
Enjoy toddy and a banana-leaf feast
in Little India

Sip toddy, a lightly fermented coconut and palm sap drink, before the highlight of the evening: rice, curries, crispy puri, potato masala and masala-marinated fried fish served on a banana leaf, best eaten by hand.
Finish with appam, a fermented rice pancake with creamy coconut milk, and a cup of masala tea. The tour ends near the Little India Arch.
