Hoi An Lantern Making Class & Hoai River Private Boat Ride - Floating Lantern Release

Learn traditional lantern making from a Hoi An artisan
and release a lantern on the Hoai River

In this hands-on workshop led by a local artisan, you make a traditional Hoi An lantern yourself. Choose between the lantern making class only, or an option where you make a bamboo lantern and a floating lantern, then take a private boat ride. The instructor speaks English, and the experience lasts 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the option.

Make your own lantern with a local artisan

Learn about Vietnam's lantern making tradition and create your own lantern using the materials and techniques of local artisans. Take your finished lantern home as a handmade souvenir unique to Hoi An.

Make a floating lantern for the river

With the bamboo & floating lantern option, you first make a traditional bamboo lantern under the artisan's guidance, then craft a floating lantern to release on the river. All materials for both workshops are included.

Release your lantern and make a wish from a private boat

After the workshop, board a private boat and cruise along the Hoai River for about 15 minutes. Admire the colorful lanterns lighting up the riverside, then release the floating lantern you made and make a wish.
