Walk through Hue Imperial City and
the Forbidden City with a licensed guide
Hue was the capital of Vietnam for 143 years, and within its walls stand both the Imperial City, where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled, and the Forbidden City, where the royal family lived. A licensed local guide with years of experience walks you through both and shares the dynasty's history and hidden stories.
Depending on your option, the tour runs as a small group of up to 8, a large group or a private tour, and you can add Dong Ba Market, Thien Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc Tomb or a Hue garden house. Duration is about 2.5 to 5.5 hours depending on the option.
Enter Ngo Mon Gate and see Thai Hoa Palace
Pass through Ngo Mon Gate, once reserved for the emperor, and follow the wide stone path to Thai Hoa Palace, where 13 Nguyen kings were crowned. In front of the throne, your guide explains coronation rituals, the roles of mandarins and the meaning of the lacquered pillar colors.
You will also see the Nine Dynastic Urns, bronze vessels each dedicated to an emperor, and hear the political story behind why only some kings are honored at The Mieu Temple.
Stroll through the private world of the Forbidden City
The Forbidden City was the private world of the emperor, empresses, concubines and eunuchs, where outsiders could face the death penalty for entering. Visit the restored Kien Trung Palace, the Royal Library, the royal gardens and Duyet Thi Duong, the oldest royal theater in Vietnam.
Walk along Truong Lang, the long covered corridor that sheltered the royal family from sun and rain, and hear stories of court intrigue, forbidden romance and the dynasty's decline.

Depending on your option, you can visit a Hue garden house showing the aristocratic lifestyle, Dong Ba Market where your guide interprets for the vendors, or Thien Mu Pagoda with its seven-story tower above the Perfume River.
The private half-day option includes hotel pickup and a private vehicle to visit the Imperial City, Tu Duc Tomb and Thien Mu Pagoda.
※ If you book a morning start, you can watch the changing of the guard at Ngo Mon Gate at 8 AM.

It is shown as "Nine Holy Cannons" on Google Maps. Four cannons are on the Ngan Gate side and five are across the road at Quang Duc Gate; meet on the Ngan Gate side where the four cannons are.
If you come by Grab or taxi, the driver will drop you at a parking lot about 100m away; walk toward the cannons. Your guide will contact you on the day using the contact details entered at booking.
