This 65-minute workshop at the Japanese culture experience space "AN" in Sendai lets you make the high-grade Japanese sweet "nerikiri" yourself. Using white and red bean paste made by a long-established shop in Kyoto, you shape 2 kinds of seasonal nerikiri. Once you color and shape them and place them on a plate, your own edible work of art is complete, and you can taste it right away. It is easy to enjoy whether you come alone or with a group.
The experience begins with an explanation of traditional Japanese sweets. "Nerikiri" is a high-grade wagashi made by shaping colored bean paste into seasonal flowers or fruits, and the class uses white and red bean paste made by a long-established shop in Kyoto. You make a flower-shaped nerikiri and a "kinton nerikiri" in turn, freely expressing colors and shapes.
When you place your sweets on a plate, a small work of art is complete. There is dedicated photo time during the experience so you can capture your finished wagashi.
The experience lasts about 55 minutes, followed by eating time when you taste the sweets you made. You leave the room at around 65 minutes. If you would like to take your sweets home, a takeout box (100 yen) can be purchased separately on site.
