This half-day food tour starts at Sendai Station and takes you through the city on foot with an English-speaking guide to taste local specialties. Sample raw or grilled oysters at Sendai Asaichi Market, packed with fresh seafood and produce, and enjoy a lunch set of gyutan (beef tongue), Sendai's signature dish. At Abe Kamabokoten you will skewer and grill your own bamboo-leaf-shaped fish cake (sasa kamaboko), then explore a temple hidden in the shopping district and retro yokocho alleys lined with izakaya. The tour wraps up with a tasting of up to three local sakes.
The tour starts at 12:00 in front of the Morinosanka stained glass in the central hall on the 2nd floor of Sendai Station. Your first stop is Sendai Asaichi, the morning market. Browse this lively open-air market full of fresh produce and seafood with your guide and taste raw or grilled oysters.
Next, enjoy a lunch set of Sendai's famous gyutan (beef tongue) for about 40 minutes. After lunch, head to the Abe Kamabokoten main shop to skewer and grill sasa kamaboko, a fish cake shaped like a bamboo leaf.
Visit Mitakisan Fudoin, a temple tucked in the middle of the busy shopping district, and pick up ready-to-eat desserts or food souvenirs at a popular shop. Then stroll Iroha Yokocho, a retro alley lined with shops and izakaya, while learning about its history. Your guide may also recommend a few izakaya for the evening.
At a sake shop in a shopping center near Sendai Station, taste up to three local sakes if you wish. The tour ends at Sendai Station, where you say goodbye to your guide.
