Highlights
Ride a reindeer-pulled sleigh for 1.5 km through snowy forest in Levi, Finnish Lapland. Take a shuttle from the Levi Tourist Office to a family-run reindeer farm, where a local herder tells you about reindeer and the deep cultural bond between the Sámi and reindeer. After the ride, relax by the fire in a Lappish tipi with a warm drink and learn how the Sámi call their reindeer. The guide speaks English and Finnish.
Program
Take a shuttle
to a reindeer farm in the forest
From the Levi Tourist Office, take a shuttle for about 10 minutes to a peaceful reindeer farm. A local herder introduces the reindeer and explains traditional and modern reindeer herding and the cultural bond between the Sámi and reindeer.
Glide through snowy forest on a reindeer sleigh
After a short introduction, wrap yourself in warm reindeer fur and sit on the sleigh. Led by a reindeer, glide quietly along a 1.5 km forest trail and enjoy the sound of the bells and the calm of Arctic nature.
Hear reindeer stories by the fire in a tipi
Back at the camp, warm up by the fire in a Lappish tipi with a hot drink. Listen to stories about the role of reindeer in traditional and modern life, and learn the calls the Sámi use to communicate with reindeer. At the end, the shuttle takes you back to the Levi Tourist Office.
