Taiwan's second national forest recreation area,
lush with tropical forest

Kenting National Forest Recreation Area is in Hengchun Township, Pingtung County, 10 minutes from Kenting Main Street, and is Taiwan's second national forest recreation area. Covered in dense tropical forest, it was once a tropical botanical garden where many tropical plants from Taiwan and abroad were cultivated.

Walk through an uplifted coral reef forest and limestone caves

The area was originally an undersea garden of stony corals, calcareous algae, foraminifera and shells. Tectonic plate movement 500,000 years ago lifted the land and created a unique forest ecosystem: an uplifted coral reef forest. You can explore this rich ecosystem along with monsoon rainforest and limestone terrain.

The limestone formations are another highlight. In caves such as Silver Dragon Cave and Stalagmite Cave, you can see stalactites and stalagmites up close, making it a good fit for travelers who love exploring.

Meet tropical plants and migratory birds

Kenting is also known for its rich birdlife. Especially from August to spring, migratory birds such as brown shrikes, Chinese sparrowhawks, grey-faced buzzards and orioles arrive one after another.

Besides the forest recreation area ticket, there are combo ticket options that add admission to the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium or Eluanbi Park.
