This day food tour picks you up at your accommodation in Rome and takes you by first-class high-speed train to Bologna, Italy's food capital. In Bologna, you spend about 4 hours with a local guide walking lively alleys and historic sights, visiting small family-run shops and market stalls that locals actually use instead of tourist spots. Taste Bologna classics such as tigelle and crescentine, mortadella and Parmigiano Reggiano, pasta with ragù, fried tortellini and lasagna, and find out why the city is called 'La Grassa' (the fat one). The tour runs in small groups, with a choice of an English or Spanish guide.
Meet the assistant wearing a 'Welcome Italy' badge in your hotel lobby or at the entrance of your B&B in central Rome. A first-class round-trip train ticket is included, and the high-speed train takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach central Bologna. A tour leader accompanies you throughout the trip.
In Bologna, spend about 4 hours walking lively streets, hidden alleys and historic sights, with time for strolling, photos, free time and shopping. Skipping tourist traps, the tour focuses on small family-run shops and market stalls that locals really visit. Enjoy warm tigelle and crescentine filled with cured meats, and taste mortadella, aged Parmigiano Reggiano and fettuccine with ragù.
You can also try crispy fried tortellini, lasagna topped with ragù or vegetables, and a daily special chosen by the guide based on that morning's ingredients. Your local guide introduces the Slow Food tradition and the rich food culture that earned Bologna the nickname 'La Grassa' (the fat one). Portions are generous and make a full meal. After the tour, you return to Rome by train.
