Start in Abisko and head
to a good aurora spot
After pickup at a designated accommodation in Abisko and once all guests have gathered, the aurora guide decides on the best location based on experience, local weather and the aurora forecast. You travel up to 90 km, and the tour takes about 3 hours 30 minutes. At the end you are dropped off at the accommodation where you were picked up.
Your guide picks the best spot of the night
At a lake or river you can see the aurora reflected in open water. Popular spots include the lakeshore of Lake Torneträsk and a quiet bay at the lake's northwest end, and sometimes the mountains around Björkliden or Bear Mountain near the Swedish-Norwegian border. The guide may also head to a remote fishing village near the mouth of the Torne River. The actual location depends on conditions that night.
Hear about the aurora and the national park on the way
On the way, your guide tells you about the northern lights and the history of Abisko National Park. When you arrive at the location, you are served a warm drink. The guide has basic knowledge of aurora photography and shares a few tips along the way.
