Our guide was very well versed in what he was discussing throughout the tour, and I enjoyed being in the company of other curious people wanting to learn more about the British Museum through a unique lens. I would highly recommend!

I have no words to describe how incredible the experience was. 5hr flew by so quick. Rosso’s knowledge and execution was exceptional. I have done many guided tours in many cities and this has been the best one of all so far. Surpassed my expectations. Would definitely recommend to my friends and family.

Program

Follow the story of humanity
at the British Museum with an archaeologist

Meet your guide in front of Russell Square Station and walk about 5 minutes to the British Museum. After entering through a separate entrance without waiting, explore the museum for about 5.5 hours including breaks with a qualified archaeologist guide. Follow in the footsteps of the archaeologists and explorers who gathered the museum's treasures and trace humanity's journey from the Stone Age to the present day.

See ancient galleries and famous artifacts

Learn in turn about humanity's origins in Africa, the first civilizations and cities of Mesopotamia, the empires of Egypt, Assyria, Greece and Rome, and what came after them. Tour the galleries of ancient Egypt and Assyria, Greece and Rome, the Vikings and the Aztecs, and see artifacts such as the Rosetta Stone, the Elgin Marbles, the Sutton Hoo helmet and the Lewis Chessmen up close.

Learn the secrets of ancient scripts and archaeology

Try the Royal Game of Ur, an ancient board game whose rules were deciphered by British Museum scholars, and hear about the people who deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphs and Sumerian cuneiform. Finally, discover the science behind archaeology: how ancient sites were buried, how artifacts are dated and which mysteries remain unsolved. The tour ends at the British Museum.
