Meet a life-size dinosaur sculpture at the entrance

Near the entrance steps on Corso Venezia stands Saltriovenator zanellai, an 8-meter-long iron sculpture. It represents the first dinosaur discovered in Lombardy, a large carnivore that lived about 200 million years ago in the Early Jurassic. Amateur paleontologist Angelo Zanella excavated its fossil near Saltrio, close to Varese, in 1996, and the museum has adopted the dinosaur as its symbol.

See the dinosaur hall and the hanging whale skeleton

Room 7 displays skeletons and models of famous dinosaurs, including the T. rex "Stan" and a model of "Ciro" (Scipionyx samniticus), one of Italy's most remarkable dinosaur fossils. In Room 12, a sperm whale skeleton that washed ashore hangs in a deep-dive pose. Large glass cases of taxidermy animals, collections of minerals, insects and fossils, and interactive rooms follow.

After booking, check in with the link in the email you receive and download the audio guide app. A dedicated map shows 40 audio points, so you can listen to the stories behind the exhibits, from the dinosaur at the entrance to the whale hanging overhead. The guide is available in English, Italian, French and German.
