Otaru Kihinkan
The 'Former Aoyama Villa,' known as Otaru Kihinkan, is a luxurious villa of a Nishin fishing magnate built in the Meiji era. The villa, which is about 1400 square meters in size, took six and a half years to build. The exterior of the building, as well as the bedrooms, hallways, and bathrooms, were designed by first-class craftsmen, and valuable works of art remain inside. You can feel the scenery of the prosperous trade at the time in the garden, and every summer, about 500 hydrangeas harmonize with the traditional architectural style to decorate the garden beautifully.
If you are interested in wonderful architecture and gardens, be sure to visit as it is one of the best hydrangea spots!
Reasons to visit Otaru Kihinkan
Otaru Kihinkan was built by the Aoyama family, and the interior is full of valuable works of art. The first floor hall features a ceiling painting by a Hokkaido-based painter, and the garden features about 400 peonies and 250 peonies.
