Meet the Oita Night Illuminated by Bamboo Lanterns
Explore Oita's seasonal night spots with a guide. Walk through old castle towns and alleys that transform into a completely different atmosphere after dark, enjoy the bamboo lanterns and illuminations, and learn about the region's history and stories from your guide. In Usuki, the bamboo lanterns are lit along the historic Niōzē and Hachiman streets. For 2026, Usuki Takeyoi is scheduled for November 7-8, with lighting hours from 17:00 to 21:00.
Admire Taketa's Chikuraku

In Taketa, discover Chikuraku (竹楽), which illuminates various parts of the castle town. Approximately 20,000 bamboo lanterns create a special night view, softly lighting up shrines, temples, and historic buildings.
You can experience different atmospheres of bamboo lantern scenery throughout the town, especially on the stairs leading to Hirose Shrine and Rentaro Tunnel.
Enjoy Beppu's Winter Night View

During the winter season, enjoy the Christmas illuminations along the Beppu coast. Stroll through Beppu at night, where the lights of the sea and city blend together, to cap off your trip.
