The Hokkaido Museum is a prefectural general museum that introduces the nature, history and culture of Hokkaido. On the day of your visit, show your QR code at the ticket counter of the first site you visit and exchange it for an admission ticket.

The exhibits follow five themes, including the relationship between nature and people, Ainu culture and the lives of settlers who came from Honshu. There are also hands-on exhibits and displays with various videos and sounds.

Stroll among historic buildings at the Historical Village of Hokkaido

The Historical Village of Hokkaido is an open-air museum that relocates, restores and displays 52 historic buildings built across Hokkaido from the Meiji era to the early Showa era. It is about a 13-minute walk or 4-minute drive from the museum.

Explore the town, fishing, farming and mountain villages

The village is divided into four areas, town, fishing village, farming village and mountain village, so you can feel how people lived at the time. Japan's only horse-drawn railway (a horse sleigh in winter) runs through the village.

※ The museum is closed every Monday, and the village is closed every Monday from October to April. There are also temporary closures, so please check the official websites before your visit.

From bus stop No. 10 at the bus terminal of JR Shin-Sapporo Station / Shin-Sapporo Station on the Tozai Subway Line, take the JR Hokkaido Bus bound for Kaitaku-no-mura and get off at Hokkaido Museum (about 15 minutes).
By car, it is about 40 minutes from central Sapporo and about 60 minutes from New Chitose Airport.
The Historical Village of Hokkaido is about a 13-minute walk or 4-minute drive from the Hokkaido Museum.

Cancellation is available within the validity period (180 days from the date of purchase), until the QR code is exchanged for an admission ticket. After the exchange or once the validity period has passed, cancellations and refunds are not possible.
