Watch traditional Balinese dance
at ARMA, Ubud
ARMA is a Balinese arts and culture venue in Ubud, where top Balinese dance troupes give regular performances on the Open Stage. The Kecak & fire dance (Monday and Wednesday), Barong & Kris dance (Tuesday) and Legong dance (Thursday) each last about 1 hour. Choose a performance-only ticket, an option with dinner, or ARMA Museum admission.
Kecak & fire dance with a chorus of 100 men

Based on a Balinese trance ritual, the Kecak was created in the 1930s by Western artist Walter Spies and local dancer Limbak. A chorus of 100 men creates the rhythm with no musical instruments, and in 1970 Javanese choreographer Sardono W. Kusumo staged a variation adding elements of Javanese theater. It is a must-see while in Ubud.
Legong dance, the tale of a king and a princess

Legong Lasem Peliatan tells the story of King Lasem, who wished to marry Princess Rangkesari of Gegelang. When she refused, he attacked Gegelang and fought her brother Prince Panji, but was defeated, and the princess was reunited with her love. The show opens with instrumental music, Puspa Raga and the Baris dance, and closes with the Oleg dance.
Barong & Kris dance with gamelan music

The Barong show begins with the Tabuh Penegak Bebarongan repertoire, mainly used to accompany the Barong dance. Its dynamic rhythms, built on the interlocking kekotekan technique and a solo drum, set it apart from other music.
※ Schedule: Kecak & fire dance Monday and Wednesday 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Barong dance Tuesday 7:00 PM, Legong dance Thursday 7:00 PM.
