Gion Corner is a special theater located near Gion where you can enjoy traditional Japanese arts in one place. There are a total of 7 traditional performances including the 'Kyo-odori' performed by maiko, as well as various traditional cultural arts such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and bunraku. In addition to the performances, there is also an exhibition space where you can learn about the history of maiko through videos, texts, and exhibits.

Introduction to the performance program

Kyomai (京舞): A traditional Japanese dance that captures the elegance and delicacy of Kyoto.
Kyogen (狂言): A classic Japanese comedy, a play full of humor and wit.
Gagaku (雅楽): Traditional Japanese court music, boasting a grand and classical atmosphere.
Chado (茶道): This is a traditional Japanese tea ceremony culture where you can experience the refined and harmonious charm of the tea ceremony.
Kado (華道): Japanese flower arrangement art that allows you to feel the beauty of harmony with nature.
Koto (箏): This is a traditional Japanese string instrument, and you can enjoy its elegant and beautiful tone.
Noh (能) or Bunraku (文楽): Depending on the period, either Noh, a traditional masked play, or Bunraku, a puppet play, is performed. In particular, Bunraku was designated as a World Cultural Heritage in 2003.

Performance Schedule Guide

The Kyoto Gion Corner performances last approximately one hour and are scheduled for 6 PM and 7 PM . Please purchase a ticket for the desired date and time and present your e-ticket when you visit. Please note that you cannot reserve seats in advance!
