This half-day program lets you care for rescued elephants at Bangkok Elephant Park in the Nong Chok district of eastern Bangkok. Instead of riding or watching shows, you hand-feed the elephants fruit, walk with them through the jungle, and help with a mud spa and bath in natural mud ponds. The program also includes an educational briefing on the elephants' rescue stories and a workshop where you make a traditional Thai herbal inhaler (Ya Dom). A lunch box and traditional clothing are included, and you can choose an option with hotel pickup.
Bangkok Elephant Park is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary on a rural plot in the Nong Chok district of eastern Bangkok. Elephants rescued from forced labor and riding camps live among jungles, open grazing fields, and natural mud ponds. There is no riding and no performances; visitors take part in hands-on care activities instead. It is about 1 to 1.5 hours from downtown Bangkok.
On arrival, guides explain the rescue stories of the resident elephants, the differences between Asian and African elephants, and safety rules for respectful interaction. You then craft a traditional handmade Thai herbal inhaler (Ya Dom) to take home as a souvenir.
Get up close and hand-feed the elephants fresh fruit such as bananas, pineapples, and cucumbers. Afterwards, help mash nutritious ingredients and roll them into special elephant vitamin balls.
Walk alongside the elephants at a respectful distance as they roam the jungle, graze, and socialize. The highlight is entering the natural pools to apply protective mud to their skin, then brushing and scrubbing them clean in the water.
After the program there is time to shower and change (towels and uniforms provided), followed by a traditional Thai buffet lunch box. Sanctuary photographers take photos of your activities and upload them online for free download.
