The History of Sainte-Chapelle

Built by Louis IX, Sainte-Chapelle was constructed in just 7 years, starting in 1242 and completed by 1248. A prime example of Gothic style, it was originally built as a royal chapel for the king and his family.

The interior of Sainte-Chapelle is divided into the first and second floors, with the chapel on the first floor intended for the general public.
