The History of La Fenice Theatre

La Fenice Theatre was designed by Italian architect Gian Antonio Selva in 1774 and opened in 1792. At the time, it was loved as the most splendid and modern theatre in Venice, but it was destroyed by fire just 18 years after its opening. Afterwards, the reconstruction of the theatre began with donations from the citizens of Venice, and a new La Fenice Theatre opened in 837. The new theatre gained even greater popularity with its magnificent decorations and excellent acoustics, and established itself as one of the central stages for Italian opera.

La Fenice Theatre remains one of Venice's iconic buildings today, hosting a variety of opera and ballet performances every year.
