History of the La Fenice Theatre
Teatro La Fenice was designed by Italian architect Gian Antonio Selva in 1774 and opened in 1792. At the time, it was loved as the most splendid and modern theater in Venice, but it burned down in a fire just 18 years after its opening. Afterwards, the theater was rebuilt with donations from the citizens of Venice, and the new Teatro La Fenice opened in 837. The new theater gained even more popularity with its splendid decorations and excellent acoustics, and it established itself as one of the central stages for Italian opera.
Teatro alla Fenice remains one of Venice's most iconic buildings today, hosting a variety of opera and ballet performances each year.
