Meet the panoramic Kobe skyline
Kobe Rokko Shidare Observatory
Kobe Rokko Shidare Observatory, located on the Rokko Mountain Garden Terrace, located approximately 900 meters above sea level, resembles a giant tree. The roof, frame, walls, and floor are all made of cypress wood collected from the forests of Yoshino, Nara Prefecture, so the observatory is filled with the faint scent of cypress.
Visit the special observatory where you can experience Mt. Rokko's four seasons, including 'cold wind experience' in summer and 'ice cutting' in winter using natural ice and wind.
Interesting story about Mt. Rokko Observatory
The observatory is located in the Rokko Garden Terrace area. It was designed by architect Hiroshi Sanbuichi with the concept of ‘architecture is a part of the earth.’ Here, you can enjoy spectacular views of Kobe and Osaka, and feel the natural energy of Mt. Rokko and how it changes with the seasons.
What about the inside of the observatory?
1. Inside the observatory made of carefully selected cypress trees
The roof, frame, walls, and floor inside the observatory are made from carefully selected hinoki from Yoshino, Nara Prefecture, so they are filled with the faint scent of cypress. While enjoying the view, take a break and immerse yourself in the scent of nature.
2. Filled with the cool breeze of nature no matter when you visit!
There is a special space where you can experience the four seasons of Mt. Rokko, such as 'cold wind experience' in summer and 'ice cutting' in winter using natural ice and wind. Please note that because this is an experience that relies on the power of nature, there are years when the experience may not be possible depending on weather conditions.

Mt. Rokko’s Artistic Light Show held at night is an event that expresses Mt. Rokko’s four seasons with lights.
The show, directed by Japanese artist Masayuki Fushimi, presents a stunning light show that imitates natural light using cutting-edge LEDs that can render over 10 million colors. Enjoy a fantastic light show with a wonderful night view.
There is even a guided tour.
