Connecting me with sea creatures
Special space, AOAO Aquarium
Let me introduce you to the special aquarium in the heart of Sapporo, the AoAo Aquarium. This aquarium is open from 10AM to 10PM, so you can visit late at night. The entire building, from the 4th to the 6th floor, is used as an aquarium building, so there are many things to see. Not only can you observe various types of marine life, but there is also a museum shop, bakery, and bar, so be sure to visit!
Introduction to the aquarium's internal facilities
📚CONNECT (4th floor / Lab 1, Lab 2, Museum Shop)
- Lab 1 (Water Cycle Lab)
: There is an artificial seawater production plant in Laboratory 1. This plant, which is about 1.6 meters in diameter and 2.7 meters in height, can produce about 3,000 liters of seawater at a time. Salt is filled into the plant once a day to produce seawater, which is then sent to the exhibition tanks in each zone of AoAo Sapporo.
- Lab 2 (Aquatic Biology Lab)
: This is a space where you can see firsthand the work that goes on behind the aquarium, including the reserve tanks for maintaining the health of exhibited creatures and preparing food for the creatures.
📚SCOPE (5th floor / Nature Aquarium, Library Aquarium)
- Nature Aquarium
: The 'Nature Aquarium', which is the third permanent exhibition in the world after Tokyo and Portugal (Lisbon), is one of the main exhibitions here, where you can observe small creatures living in their natural state in the water covered with lush aquatic plants.
- Library Aquarium
It is a space where tanks and books are displayed together, as if they were classified as a library. There are 43 different tanks of various sizes, with observation points written on them, so you can read each page of a book and learn about the stories of each creature, as well as about the creatures and their habitats.
📚COMMONS (6th floor / Penguin, Plankton Room, Blue Room, Green Room, Bakery & Bar)
- Penguin
: Here you can closely observe the dynamic behavior of the southern rockhopper penguin, which has the habit of moving by jumping on two feet.
- Plankton Room
: This is an exhibition where you can closely observe plankton, which do not have the strength to swim and live by drifting in the water. In 16 different tanks of various sizes, jellyfish and other creatures leisurely float and beat in a certain rhythm, creating a fantastic space!
- Blue Room, Green Room
Blue Room: This is an exhibition that recreates the vast ocean world with digital art. Not only is it projected onto a large screen measuring approximately 20 meters wide, but it is also projected onto the floor measuring approximately 120 square meters in total area, allowing you to experience an overwhelming sense of immersion as if you were underwater!
Green Room: This is an exhibition space where lush tropical plants grow. It is characterized by over 20 species of plants, including ficus trees that are over 2 meters tall, allowing you to vividly experience the life energy unique to the tropics.
