This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. It was slightly difficult to find our guide amongst all the guides and operators at the meeting point but eventually we met up with Emma and Leroy. Emma was super helpful with helping us to change money. Leroy was very informative and gave us a lot of insights. Both Emma and Leroy took excellent care of our group and made sure we had an awesome experience.

Highlights

Immerse yourself in Rio de Janeiro's iconic favela with a local guide who has lived in Rocinha for years. Ride a moto-taxi through Rocinha's hills and alleys, experience local Capoeira performances and football culture, and get a close-up look at the residents' daily lives and stories. This isn't just a tour of the favela; it's a local experience that offers insight into Rocinha's history, changes, and culture from the perspective of its residents.

Program

Meet Rocinha with a Local Guide

Begin your Rocinha tour by meeting your local guide at the São Conrado metro station. Your guide, a long-time resident of Rocinha, will share stories about the area's history, changes, and the daily lives of its residents based on their personal experiences. You'll move through the community respectfully, experiencing Rocinha in a way that's not possible on typical tourist routes.

Explore the Alleys by Moto-Taxi

Hop on a moto-taxi, a common mode of transport in Rocinha, to navigate the hilly terrain. Get a close-up view of Rocinha's unique urban landscape as you travel through narrow alleys and densely packed houses.

Afterward, walk with your guide to discover the residents' way of life and local culture. You'll have opportunities to take photos and videos at key spots.

Experience Capoeira and Local Culture

During the tour, watch a Capoeira performance, a representative traditional Brazilian art form. Enjoy the vibrant energy of this art form, which blends music and movement, up close.

You'll also learn about the significance of football in the daily lives and culture of Rocinha residents. Gain a more diverse understanding of Rio's favelas through your local guide's insights as you conclude the tour.
