Got to the pier a bit earlier than I should but because the 8-40 am boat wasn’t full they let a few of us on, even though my boat was 9-20 am. Boat ride was amazing as it took you closer to the island and Alcatraz jail . Once on the island it was very eerie to think of the things that happened on this island Inside the jail was only small , and it was overwhelming to see the separate cells and the people who’d called them home for years . The exercise yard was what got me and the top steps that the harder men sat on in a hierarchy formation . Seeing a bit of San Fran from those top steps and a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge . Defo worth a visit

I really enjoyed the boat ride to and from Alcatraz and it was most interesting to visit. The included audio guide at the jailhouse really brought everything to life. There was also a good exhibition of the Indian occupation. However, I had the devil's own job in accessing the ticket as my phone was not working properly. I was told to collect the ticket in Beach Street but it took me so long to find it that the office was closed by the time I got there. Had it not been for a kind shopkeeper who helped me, I would not have received the QR code on my phone. Also, the trip was advertised as 7pm but the boat sailed at 6.30pm. I missed the boat but fortunately got a stand-by seat on the next boat. It would have been so much easier if the QR code ti cket could have been e-mailed to me.
