We loved our evening sail with Captain Philip. We ended up being the only two that evening, so we had a very peaceful sailing experience of San Diego. We got to see some Sea Lions resting on a buoy in the water. The sailboat was beautiful and we thoroughly our sunset sailing. Would highly recommend.

We opted to take a sunset sail the first night we were in San Diego and it ended up being everything we hoped for and more. We did not want to take a “party cruise” and opened to do a small group sail which had 6 passengers and Captain Phillip. It was a beautiful night and the wind was ideal for a sail. Capt. Phillip is the owner of the boat and we could absolutely tell that sailing is a labor of love for him and that the joy of sailing is in his heart. He provided beer, wine, sodas and some light pre-packaged snacks. He also had some blankets to warm us up as sun was going down. He allowed us as much peaceful, quiet time as we wanted, but was very thorough and knowledgeable about anything we asked him about. Don’t hesitate to book this sunset cruise. It will set the tone for your entire trip or would be a great way to wind up your San Diego trip.

Set sail aboard Liberty,
a hand-restored classic yacht

Board the classic yacht Liberty at Safe Harbor Sunroad Marina on Harbor Island and sail San Diego Bay for about 2.5 hours. Liberty recreates a gaff-rigged Friendship sloop, and its finely finished woodwork and bronze fittings reflect old-world craftsmanship.

The yacht is family owned and operated, and you can choose a small-group sail or a private sail for your party. You can also book all 6 seats on a small-group sail to make it private.

Sail past the USS Midway and Coronado Bridge

Relax as you take in key San Diego harbor landmarks, including the USS Midway aircraft carrier, Seaport Village, the Coronado Bridge, the naval base, Point Loma, and the Star of India clipper ship. An English-speaking guide is on board.

Take the helm and learn to sail

Follow the captain's instructions and learn how to sail a classic yacht. During the sail, look out for sea lions, dolphins, and a variety of seabirds.

Follow the signs for San Diego Airport onto Harbor Island Drive, turn left at the second traffic light, and pass the large parking lot on the left. Turn left just before the building with a flagpole and a boat in the front yard, enter the lot marked Safe Harbor Sunroad Marina, and park on the left side (row 2 or 3). Wait at the yellow chairs at Gate 1 and call the captain to let them know you have arrived. Restrooms are behind the marina office. Plan to arrive 20 minutes early in case of traffic near the airport.
