Program
Depart from Fairbanks
and cross the Arctic Circle
Depart Fairbanks at 1 PM and travel north to the Arctic Circle (latitude 66.5622°N). Take photos here and receive an official "Arctic Circle crossing" certificate to commemorate the moment.
See the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and the Yukon River
On the way, stop at the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which stretches more than 800 miles (about 1,287 km) across Alaska. Learn about the engineering behind the pipeline and its role in Alaska's history and economy.
Continue to the banks of the Yukon River and enjoy sweeping views of Alaska's rugged wilderness.
Look for wildlife in the Finger Mountain highlands
Head to the highlands of Finger Mountain and look for wildlife such as elk, foxes, bears and even lynx. Enjoy sandwiches, potato chips, snacks and hot drinks surrounded by the scenery of northern Alaska.
Search for the aurora on the night drive back to Fairbanks
As darkness falls, begin the journey back to Fairbanks while searching the sky for the aurora. Watch for the lights as you drive under the winter night sky, arriving back in Fairbanks around 3 AM.
