Start in the Tropical Rainforest
and follow 5,000 years of chocolate history
The Colmar Chocolate Museum offers an interactive tour featuring immersive spaces, videos, 3D projections, and tastings. The journey begins in the tropical rainforest. Meet a small monkey eating cocoa pods and learn how cocoa trees are harvested.
After walking through the forest, enter the Aztec temple and meet Quetzalcoatl, the serpent god who legend says brought cocoa to the world.
Board a 16th-century Spanish galleon and head to the royal courts of Europe
The next room is a recreation of a 16th-century Spanish galleon, complete with creaking floors, swaying lanterns, and a view of the sea through the windows. Here, discover how cocoa traveled to Europe.
Next, move on to the era when chocolate arrived in European royal courts. You can see the luxurious tools made for drinking cocoa and learn about the original flavors of the time. Discover the beliefs and facts surrounding the benefits of cocoa during the time when chocolate was considered medicine.
Meet Alsace's master chocolatiers and watch virtual demonstrations
The second floor is dedicated to the industrialization of chocolate and the master craftsmen who have made Alsatian chocolate. In the virtual demonstrations, 3 chocolatiers present their recipes and secrets for making the perfect chocolate.
Taste chocolate as you explore
You can taste a variety of chocolates during your visit. If you choose the "Ticket + Hot Chocolate" option, you can also enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.
