This is a half-day afternoon rafting trip down Class 2 and 3 rapids on the Barron River, about 20 minutes from Cairns. Spend up to 2 hours on the water, alternating between thrilling rapids and calm stretches surrounded by rainforest gorge scenery. Expert guides provide safety and paddling instruction plus all rafting equipment, so first-timers can join too. Drive yourself to Lake Placid or choose a pickup option from Cairns or Port Douglas.

Program

Set off from Lake Placid
and ride the Barron Gorge rapids

Meet at the starting point at Lake Placid, or get picked up from Cairns or Port Douglas depending on your option. On arrival, meet your guide, put on a life jacket, helmet, and rafting shoes (optional), and head down to the river.

Get a safety briefing and paddling lesson

After a thorough safety briefing and paddling instruction, practice on calm water first. Start slowly on gentle rapids to build your confidence.

Take on Class 2 and 3 rapids like the Rooster Tail

Once you are comfortable, tackle more exciting rapids such as the thrilling Rooster Tail. Spend up to 2 hours moving between rapids and calm water, enjoying rainforest views and hearing about local wildlife as you paddle.

Change into dry clothes and check your action photos

At the exit point, change into dry clothes and check out the action photos taken during your trip. Photos are available for purchase if you wish.

※ The river levy of $35 per person is not included and must be paid on the day of the trip.
