Go canyoning in Behana Gorge, set in the World Heritage-listed rainforest about 30 minutes from Cairns city. Tackle natural rock slides, cliff jumps, and abseiling down granite walls as you pass cascading waterfalls and crystal-clear pools. Groups are limited to 10 per guide, and all jumps, slides, and abseils are optional, so beginners and families aged 8 to 80 can join. Equipment including wetsuits, helmets, harnesses, and life jackets, plus round-trip shuttles from Cairns city, are included.
Program
Depart from Cairns
and head to Behana Gorge
Take the shuttle from Cairns city for about 30 minutes to Behana Gorge in Wooroonooran National Park. Behana Gorge is a protected rainforest area that cannot be reached on foot, and canyoning runs year-round, including in winter.
Get a safety briefing and gear up
At the base, receive a full safety briefing and put on your wetsuit, thermal top, helmet, harness, and life jacket. The route is chosen each day based on water levels to use the best and safest sections of the gorge.
Head deep into the gorge
with slides and cliff jumps
Follow your expert guide deep into the gorge, passing cascading waterfalls and crystal-clear pools while enjoying natural rock slides and cliff jumps. All jumps and slides are optional, so you can take part at your own pace and comfort level.
Abseil down granite walls
After accredited abseiling instruction from a certified guide, abseil down granite walls. Your guide reads the group and adjusts every challenge accordingly. After the experience, ride the shuttle back to Cairns.
