Program
Ride the TranzAlpine train
into the Southern Alps
Depart central Christchurch between 7:00 and 7:30 AM and transfer to Christchurch Railway Station, where you board the TranzAlpine train to Arthur's Pass. The train crosses the Canterbury Plains and passes through valleys with braided rivers into the Southern Alps. Scan the QR code on board to listen to the commentary.
Explore the alpine village of
Arthur's Pass and its trails
Get off the train at the small alpine village of Arthur's Pass and meet your driver-guide again. Explore the village and nearby bush walks, relax at a mountain café, and look out for the kea, the region's famous alpine parrot.
Return to Christchurch
via Castle Hill
Leave the national park by coach and return to Christchurch via the Kura Tawhiti–Castle Hill Conservation Area, known for its unique limestone formations and photo spots. Along the way, your guide shares stories about local wildlife, geology, and farming traditions.
