From Christchurch: Arthur's Pass Alpine Explorer Day Tour

Cross the Canterbury Plains
toward the Southern Alps

After pickup from a designated location in central Christchurch, head west across the Canterbury Plains toward the foothills of the Southern Alps. Farmland, braided rivers, and high-country scenery unfold along the way as your local Kiwi guide shares the history and culture of the region. You will also stop at Alpine Jet Thrills - Canyon Safaris in the Waimakariri Gorge for about 40 minutes.

Walk among Lake Lyndon and
the Castle Hill limestone

Take photos at Lake Lyndon, surrounded by open mountain scenery, then move on to Castle Hill (Kura Tāwhiti) to spend about 45 minutes walking among huge limestone formations with views of the surrounding hills and mountains. Next, make a short stop at Lake Pearson, known for its peaceful roadside views with mountains in the background.

Explore Arthur's Pass National Park
and the Otira Viaduct Lookout

Spend about 1.5 hours in Arthur's Pass National Park, with its beech forests, river valleys, waterfalls, and rugged peaks, exploring the area around Arthur's Pass Village and short walking tracks. Walks depend on the weather, trail conditions, and group ability. Look out for the kea, the alpine parrot found in this area.

At the Otira Viaduct Lookout, admire the viaduct, steep valley, and surrounding mountains. After the tour, return to central Christchurch.
