Leave Christchurch for Mount Cook
in a small group
Pickup is from central Christchurch hotels between 6:15 and 6:40 am. Travel in a small group of up to 11 in an air-conditioned Mercedes Sprinter with Wi-Fi and USB chargers, while your local guide shares stories and insights in English. This is a carbon-neutral tour.
Cross the Canterbury Plains, take a short break in Geraldine, and stop for about 10 minutes at Fairlie Bakehouse, known for its meat pies. Pies are not included but can be purchased there.
Take in the views at
Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki
Spend about 15 minutes at turquoise Lake Tekapo, visiting the Church of the Good Shepherd, one of the most photographed places in New Zealand. Then stop for about 10 minutes at glacier-fed Lake Pukaki to admire the sweeping mountain views.
Choose a glacier walk in
Mount Cook National Park
Spend about 2.5 to 3 hours in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, weather permitting. Choose between the Hooker Valley Track to a glacier lake (10 km, 2 to 2.5 hours, mostly flat) and the Tasman Glacier walk overlooking New Zealand's longest glacier (2 to 2.5 hours, some uphill). Depending on the time available, you may not be able to complete the full track.
Scenic helicopter flights and entry to the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre are not included and can be booked separately.
Return to Christchurch
via Tekapo and Rakaia
On the way back, take breaks of about 10 minutes each at Lake Tekapo and Rakaia. You arrive back in Christchurch around 6:30 to 7:00 pm with drop-off at central hotels. The tour takes about 13 hours, including 8 hours of driving.
