From Auckland: One-Way Tour to Rotorua via Hobbiton & Waitomo

Leave Auckland and head south
through the Waikato countryside

After pickup from your Auckland city hotel, set off in a 16-seat minibus. Your guide points out Auckland's main highlights as you leave the city, then you head south through the Waikato's countryside, rivers, mountains and farmland. Stop for a coffee break in the small village of Pirongia and pass through Ōtorohanga.

Ride a boat beneath the glowworms
at Waitomo Caves

At your first major stop, the Waitomo Caves, explore cave formations such as stalactites, stalagmites and limestone columns with a guide before descending further underground. Glide along the cave river by boat beneath thousands of glowing glowworms.

Walk through the Hobbiton Movie Set with a guide

On the way to Hobbiton, make a short stop outside Big Bird to meet the local animals over the fence (there's no time to enter the park). On arrival at Hobbiton, you'll have time to buy lunch before boarding one of the big green Hobbiton buses. Spend 2.5 hours on a fully guided tour of the 50,000-square-meter set with an expert Hobbiton guide, visiting 44 hobbit holes and gardens and hearing stories about the filmmaking. Finish with a cool complimentary drink at the Green Dragon Inn.

Pass through Tirau, tour Rotorua
and finish at your accommodation

Pass through Tirau, known for its corrugated iron sculptures and buildings, and arrive in Rotorua. Your guide takes you on a short driving tour of Lake Rotorua, the Rotorua Museum, the Government Gardens, Whangapipiro (Rachel Spring) and the Blue Baths before drop-off at your Rotorua hotel. Accommodation is not included and must be booked separately.
