at the China Art Museum

At the China Art Museum in Pudong New District, enjoy a dynamic multimedia version of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" by Northern Song painter Zhang Zeduan. The painting depicts urban and rural life in Bianjing, the Northern Song capital, in fine detail. The original, kept at the Palace Museum in Beijing, is 24.8 cm high and 528.7 cm long, portraying more than 814 people, 80 animals and 20 boats and vehicles.

Watch Bianjing by day and night on a 128 m curved screen

A giant curved screen 128 m long and 6.5 m high, 12 cinema-grade projectors and 8 intelligent dynamic points combine with sound, lighting and electrical effects to create an immersive experience. A night scene not found in the original has been added, switching between day and night every 4 minutes: 691 characters go about daily life by day, and 377 characters recreate the lively night market by night.

At the bottom of the exhibition, a virtual underwater scene of the Bian River with rippling water and stereo sound makes you feel as if you have traveled back in time to the bustling city.
