Lao Ye Mei Shi Guan is a long-established Kaohsiung restaurant that keeps a recipe passed down for 50 years and has been selected for the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand. Its signature dishes are caramel smoked duck, lemongrass grilled pork, duck breast rice and traditional soups and rice dishes. The Dingshan branch is on Zhuangjing Road (莊敬路) behind Carrefour Dingshan in Sanmin District, with a spacious, homely dining room.
Taste the signature caramel smoked duck
Peking duck delivered daily is smoked with cane sugar in the traditional way, giving it a lightly salty taste and a gentle smoky aroma. The bone-in leg meat and golden, crispy skin are especially popular. It often sells out at mealtimes.
Pair it with lemongrass grilled pork and mixed fish soup
The lemongrass grilled pork uses lemongrass from the owner's own farm on Taiwanese pork for a rich aroma. It goes well with white rice drizzled with duck sauce.
The mixed fish soup combines milkfish skin, fish meat and fish balls in a broth simmered for 4 hours with duck, fish and pork bones. It is even more satisfying with sesame oil noodles.
