Highlights
This 2-day tour from Bishkek crosses three mountain passes (Boom, Kubaky and Kalmak-Ashuu) to reach Song-Kul Lake on a high plateau at about 3,000 m. You spend a night in a yurt camp on the lakeshore and experience nomadic life up close, and on clear days you can watch the sunset over the water and a sky full of stars. On the way, you stop for photos at the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir, surrounded by red mountains. A guide accompanies you, and the yurt stay and meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch) are included.
Program
Leave Bishkek at dawn
and cross three mountain passes
Meet at the meeting point at 5:45 AM and leave Bishkek at 6:00 AM. Greet the morning with hot tea in the Boom Gorge (breakfast on day 1 is not included), then stop for photos at the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir, surrounded by red mountains. Next, climb the Kalmak-Ashuu Pass, feel the thin mountain air and take in a panoramic view of Song-Kul Lake.
Spend a night in a yurt camp by Song-Kul Lake
Arrive at the yurt camp around 1:30 PM and enjoy a homemade lunch. In the afternoon, walk along the lakeshore and relax, and dinner is served in a cozy yurt. Each yurt is shared by 4–5 people, and at about 3,000 m above sea level you can see the stars clearly on a clear night.
Enjoy horseback riding and a swim in the lake
After breakfast at the yurt camp on day 2, you can ride a horse across the wide summer pastures if you wish (on request, at extra cost). Weather permitting, you can also swim in Song-Kul Lake.
Return to Bishkek along mountain roads
Leave the camp around 11:00 AM and descend along scenic mountain roads. After a meal in the Boom Gorge, you arrive in Bishkek around 7–8 PM.
