This 3-day tour travels between Yogyakarta and Bali and visits Mount Bromo and Ijen Crater, the signature volcanoes of East Java. Departing from Yogyakarta, you take the train to Surabaya, continue by vehicle to the Bromo area, and arrive in Bali by ferry on the last day. An English-speaking driver accompanies you, and the train class, accommodation type, and whether entry fees are included depend on the option you select when booking.

Travel to East Java by train

On the first morning, you are picked up in Yogyakarta city around 5:45 AM and taken to the train station, then board the 6:45 AM train to Surabaya for about 4 hours. After arriving in Surabaya, take a coffee and lunch break at a rest area before driving to your hotel in the Bromo area.

Check in at the hotel around 2:30 PM and enjoy free time. It is a good idea to rest early for the next day's pre-dawn sunrise tour.

Watch the Mount Bromo sunrise from King Kong Hill

At 3:00 AM on the second day, head to the King Kong Hill viewpoint by jeep. After a short, easy trek to the viewpoint, watch the sunrise over Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, and Mount Semeru.

After sunrise, descend to the Bromo crater area and explore the Sea of Sand and the crater surroundings. Return to the hotel for breakfast and check-out, then transfer to your hotel in Bondowoso for free time.

Climb Ijen Crater and arrive in Bali by ferry

Depart for the Ijen base camp around 11:30 PM, receive a briefing from a ranger, and hike about 4 km uphill for around 1.5 hours to the summit. If accessible, descend to the blue fire area, then return to the summit to watch the sunrise over the Ijen crater lake.

After descending to base camp and having a breakfast box, take the ferry from Ketapang port to Gilimanuk in Bali, which takes about 1 hour. Meet the Bali team at Gilimanuk port and transfer to your booked accommodation in Bali to end the tour. Travel time depends on the location of your accommodation.

Departures from Bali run in the reverse direction

Bali departure options pick you up from your accommodation in Bali on the first day and cross to Java by ferry, then meet the driver at Ketapang port and transfer to a hotel in Banyuwangi. On the second day, depart for Ijen at midnight to hike to see the blue fire and the sunrise over the crater lake, then continue to the Bromo area.

On the third day, enjoy a Mount Bromo sunrise tour by jeep, then return to the hotel and travel to Yogyakarta by train or van.
