Next, head to Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia, and take in its grand architecture and calm atmosphere. Nearby Jakarta Cathedral shows the city's religious diversity and history through its detailed architecture. You spend about 30 minutes at each.

At Danar Hadi Batik House, see the intricate patterns and colors of traditional Indonesian batik, then walk through the Jalan Surabaya Antique Market to browse vintage items. You have about 30 minutes at each for photos and shopping.

Discover the cultures of Indonesia's regions
at Taman Mini

Finally, head to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, a large cultural park. Explore traditional houses showcasing the architecture of different Indonesian provinces and learn about the country's diverse cultures at the Indonesia Museum. If you like, you can also ride the park's cable car (Skylift) for views over the park.
